I’m not a doctor, or a trained health professional, but I’ll have a crack at explaining how I got here…..
On June 25th 2025 I started taking Mounjaro. Since then I’ve lost 38 kilo’s (6 stones) and I though maybe you might like to know how.
The first thing you might like to know is that Mounjaro is NOT a wonder drug. But it is BLOODY great at doing two things….
One, it really does suppress your appetite, and two, it increases your insulin levels. But, and know this, that is ALL Mounjaro does. If you think taking this “wonder drug” will make you lose weight without any effort then you are sadly mistaken.
The fact of the matter is quite simple. And if we’re honest we all know this. The way to lose weight is to consume less calories than your body will use on a daily basis. If you want to lose weight quickly then you have to run a BIG calorie deficit. That’s what I chose to do.
It’s funny, but starting out on this journey reminded me of when I did my FA Level 2 coaching badge. During the course one of the modules was on healthy eating and we were encouraged to keep a food journal. Mine went along the lines of pork pie, beer, pork pie, crisps, beer, chips…..
We all know this is not healthy. But it’s ever so easy to fall into bad eating habits. So on the 25th June I decided that I needed to run a huge calorie deficit, but i also needed to change my eating habits. Mounjaro gave me the kickstart to do just that.
I kinda knew this, but I did research and I now firmly believe this. A low carb diet helps you lose weight.
My plan, and I’m still doing this, was to change my daily intake to run a 1000 or so calorie a day deficit and reduce the volume of carbs I’m eating down to almost zero. It’s worked. I think of my body now in the same way that a camel thinks about it’s hump. I’m looking to consume the hump!!
My daily intake of food is massively reduced. I take a vitamin and mineral supplement every day. I eat lots of fish and I eat good portions of vegetables (less the carbi ones) or salads every day. I’ve removed anything white from my diet – bread, pasta, potatoes and the like.
I’m now 38 kilo’s down. That’s six stones in English money.
Mounjaro made it easy, but I’m off that now, and it’s still easy. I can eat huge portions of salad or veg and still maintain that calorie deficit. I’m convinced that reducing carbs also reduced your appetite.
I have reduced my alcohol intake to almost zero.
Now, you might expect me to say something like I have less energy, or I feel cramped due to lack of food. You would be wrong.
Shedding 38 kilos has given me way more energy. I very rarely feel hungry either. The only “real” side effect I’ve had on this journey is that my stomach hurts in the morning after drinking alcohol. You could argue that’s a good thing!
I know that as my weight comes down, and my exercise goes up then I will need to consume more calories. It really isn’t rocket science.
So in the end. How did I get here. Simple.
I eat less than I consume. I eat healthy foods. I cheat “rarely”. And I’m now trying to get more and more active.
Anyone who tells you there’s an easier way to lose weight is probably lying or misguided. There is no easy fix, but doing it is actually quite easy!!
You just have to start…….
It seems to me that every bit of news these days is bad. Maybe we’ve forgotten just how wonderful our country is, just how wonderful the people in it are, and our capacity for being a bit mad.
A few months ago I was morbidly obese. Today I’m just obese. But next year I plan on being fit, toned and healthy. Like all good sales people I need a target. I need to be challenged and I need a real reason to get my fat backside out there and train. The second half of 2025 has been consumed with losing weight. The year of 2026 will be consumed with training, scaring myself half to death, and getting fit again.
Can a 54 year old really go from 23 1/2 stone to running a six minute mile within a year?
Let’s find out!!
I’ll do everything I can to make sure he does. If you could find it in yourself to sponsor me, or join me on my quest, then it’s all for two amazing charities….
