Buy Smaller Plates!

Do Yourself a Favour...

Now, I know I’m getting old and grumpy. But it is genuinely annoying to think that some simple life skill gets lost on us all in today’s busy world.

Since June 2025, helped by Mounjaro for sure, I’ve been able to educate myself with one very simple life skill. Portion control. (PS. I’m off Mounjaro now)

Another thing that annoys me, is that we’re told that eating healthily is expensive and time consuming.

Utter rubbish. It’s easy and less expensive to eat well than to consume fast food in my opinion.

Here’s three things that I’ve put into practice that will help anyone lose weight. Remember, I’m not a medical professional so you should seek guidance before embarking on your own journey.

Portion Control

Eat smaller meals. It really is very simple. It’s very British isn’t it, I remember my parents telling me to “eat everything on my plate” as a kid growing up. I remember as a wet behind the ears sales rep in the 90’s frequenting a little chef every morning and ordering the Olympic Breakfast….

Do yourself one massive favour. Buy smaller plates and eat less in volume. It works!

Eating well is cheap!

All of the major supermarkets have pre-packaged mixes of vegetables that can be cooked in 15-20 minutes in an air fryer or 30-40 minutes in an oven. Typically these are packaged to feed 2 people, so for a family of four you need a couple. They’re a couple of quid each.

Lean meats, such as chicken or pork and fish, such as salmon or tuna steaks are relatively inexpensive.

Every night I return home from work, stick veg in one tray of the air fryer and then the lean protein in tray two, 20 minutes later my wife and I are eating. On average our meals cost less than £4 a head and the food is fresh, healthy and delicious.

If I could be bothered to prep loose vegetables then it would be cheaper for sure.

Isn’t a Big Mac Meal more than that? It’s not expensive to eat healthy – it’s the exact opposite.

Slow down

Because Mounjaro suppresses your appetite something unexpected happens, you tend to eat more slowly when you’re on it.

Now I’m off the drug I’ve found it easy to maintain this though. Eating slowly, making the meal an event if you will, means you consume less. you don’t throw it in fast and throw in more than you need.

Making your meal an event, rather than throwing it down the chute will help you on your own weight loss journey.

Have I?

Why I AM doing this...

It seems to me that every bit of news these days is bad. Maybe we’ve forgotten just how wonderful our country is, just how wonderful the people in it are, and our capacity for being a bit mad.

A few months ago I was morbidly obese. Today I’m just obese. But next year I plan on being fit, toned and healthy. Like all good sales people I need a target. I need to be challenged and I need a real reason to get my fat backside out there and train. The second half of 2025 has been consumed with losing weight. The year of 2026 will be consumed with training, scaring myself half to death, and getting fit again.

Can a 54 year old really go from 23 1/2 stone to running a six minute mile within a year?

Let’s find out!!

I’ll do everything I can to make sure he does. If you could find it in yourself to sponsor me, or join me on my quest, then it’s all for two amazing charities….
